It is a further step on the path that the organizers of the EBERL Chiemsee Triathlon have been going for years: on June 30, 2019, the DTU German Championship of the Para Triathletes over the Olympic Distance will take place in the Chiemgau region.

With around 120 deaf and para-triathletes, the race at the Chiemsee was the world’s largest triathlon for people with disabilities in 2018. Instead of clapping, the moderators encouraged the spectators them to raise their hands and wave. The audience loved that „cheering“ for the deaf athletes quite fast. „It is a unique picture when a crowd of people stands with their hands raised and „claps“,“ said former Olympic star Ricarda Lisk. The former Pro triathlete joined a team with TV Star Richy Müller and Rebecca Rapp, who stood in for the prevented Federal Government Disability Commissioner, Verena Bentele, in an ambassador relay. „With the ambassador relay we wanted to show that sport unites us all,“ said initiator Sven Hindl enthusiastically.

Meanwhile, not only has an ambassador film to promote the World Triathlon Championships for people with disabilities been made, but also the registration for the DTU German Championship Para Triathlon on the Olympic Distance opened. „We are thrilled and happy to have found another supporter of the Para-Triathlon. I am sure that the organizers of the Chiemsee Triathlon will offer a worthy platform for the best German para-triathletes in the summer of 2019, „says Mario Schmidt-Wendling, head coach of the DTU Para Triathlon national team.

The already familiar program with the Sprint Distance race on Saturday and the Olympic and Half Distance on Sunday will once again attract triathletes from all over the world. „Whether you are an individual starter or relay, a beginner or a routined triathlete – we want to offer all athletes the perfect race,“ says organizer Sven Hindl.

Registration for the 5th EBERL Chiemsee Triathlon is already possible.

The Olympic Games 2020 will bring a major innovation for the triathlon. Then, triathlon will no longer be just an individual sport, in which each athlete fights for the most part for himself and his own result. In 2020 triathlon will be a team race for the first time in the Olympic Games. „Mixed Team Relay“ is the name of the fast-paced, exciting format that athletes and their teams will be able to try out at next year’s EBERL Chiemsee Triathlon.

Two men and two women form a team in the Olympic Triathlon Mixed Team Relay. Everyone completes a full triathlon and then hands over to his teammate. Extremely short distances ensure high speed, different team strategies, excitement. Even for spectators triathlon becomes a fast-paced spectacle and sometimes a nervous ordeal.
